Update for January 2004

Saturday, January 31, 2004 8:00pm EST

Just watching TV.  Relaxed most of the day. Played a bit of computer games and watched a DVD movie.  Cleaned a bit too.  Still cold outside.  Some black Ford Mustang was blocking my parking spot when I got back.  Not much else.

Thursday, January 29, 2004 7:45pm EST

My parking space was nice and clean when I got home.  Yippee.  I was able to get out of my car without snow trying to get into the car.  It was well worth the money to have them clean my space out.  Over at Starbucks, where else, just hanging.  Chuck works tonight and Stephen is waiting for an appointment.  Lots going on today.  Just helped a friend from Portland sort out various options for a flight they are taking.  Other than that, just keeping warm.  Had a very interesting meeting today.  And my IT Director has now left on vacation.  My PSC project is really heating up.  Later.

Wednesday, January 28, 2004 6:33pm EST

My neighbor downstairs just called.  She asked if I could take out her garbage for her.  Good timing because I will be leaving soon anyway.  She lost her husband a few months back and I gave her my phone number in case she needed anything a few weeks ago.  It was so sweet that she called.  Might even remind me to take out my own.  (giggle)

Wednesday, January 28, 2004 6:25pm EST

Generally everything is fine here.  Lots of work but the day went by rather fast.  Actually got to get several things done today because it was a bit quiet.  Some little research projects that were bothering me.  Finally got to dig into them today.  After digging myself out this morning.  Oh that was fun.  NOT !!!  It was about 10" deep out there with drifts of up to 2 feet.  My car had snow up past the door this morning.  Now I am parked on top of the snow.  Found out from a neighbor that you can pay to have the super from the apartments clear your spot.  I left a voice mail for them just now that I was interested.  That would be so sweet if I got home from work tomorrow and my space was cleared.  Oh well, I am off for my normal romp to Starbucks.  Think I will eat first will I wait for mom to call.  She is supposed to be home in about 5 minutes and I need to ask her how to spell something.  My spell checker is not picking it up. Tiffany says hi to everyone.  Most everyone made it in today.  Some of the far away people did not.  Lots of snow everywhere but the main roads are just fine and my secondary streets are bare pavement.  Silly mom called me from Safeway.  At least I figured out how to spell romp.  Really had it butchered.  Ok, off to fix something in the kitchen before I head out into the snow for Starbucks.

Wednesday, January 28, 2004 5:45am EST

Lots of snow outside.  Guess I will shower and then go shovel out the car.  It sure is white out there.

Tuesday, January 27, 2004 9:00pm EST

Well it is snowing outside.  About 1 1/2" so far.  Was over at Starbucks when it started.  We were playing Hand and Foot (cards).  Chuck really stomped on me.  But we had a nice time just hanging.  My Tuesday night meeting in the City has been postponed to next week.  We will see how this turns out.  We are supposed to have several more inches and possibly up to 10" now by morning.  Hmmmm.  Might walk to work.  Primary roads are fine.  The others are very snow covered.  At home now.  Going to make some dinner and watch a movie.

Tuesday, January 27, 2004 5:45am EST

Here are the details on our current Winter Storm Warning for tonight.  We will see what happens.  Going to turn off the TV now and head into the shower and then get ready for work.  Supposed to be in the City tonight for a meeting.  Will have to play it by ear and see what actually happens.

Oh yippee.  We have a snow alert.  6-12" by Wednesday and now another worm has hit the internet.

New Worm Spreading Rapidly Across Internet

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Security experts warned on Monday about a new virus outbreak that was spreading quickly across the Internet.  The new virus, dubbed MyDoom or Novarg, is a mass-mailing worm that arrives as an attachment with an .exe, .scr, .zip or .pif extension and can have a subject line of "test" or "status." It mails itself out to addresses in the victim's computer and is clogging mail servers and degrading network performance at companies, experts said. "Mailboxes at large corporations are infected and reporting multiple infections throughout their entire organizations," said David Perry, global education director at Trend Micro. The worm was discovered on Monday afternoon and spread so quickly that Trend Micro, Network Associates, Symantec and other anti-virus companies were rating it a "high" outbreak. Security experts said they were still analyzing the virus to discover what it does to the victim computers.

Just chilling at Starbucks.  Chuck just helped setup a wireless network here.  We have a little wireless network here now.  We are waiting on Steve to get here so that we can have 3 players.  Dennis just got here and does not have his computer here tonight.  Just a slow Sunday night just having fun.

Sunday, January 25, 2004 5:30pm EST

Finished up at the patient service center that we were working at.  Stephen and I were there to reinstall the systems that had been moved because they renovated the place.  We also were to install two new systems.  But they did not have the place done yet so we had to leave one system in the box.  But they should be fine for the morning and then we will be over later on Monday to finish up.  Just at Starbucks now after having a bite.  Weather is cold.  They say we will have 1-3" tomorrow starting in the afternoon.  Just tired of this cold weather.

Saturday, January 24, 2004 9:30pm EST

Sitting at Starbucks with Susan, Chuck, Steven and Stephen.  Steve, Chuck and I are playing Risk on Steve's computer while Susan is just hanging out with us.  Went to dinner today and generally just waiting for the snow to start dumping on us again tomorrow night.  Stephen bought a new coat today.  He is rather happy with it.  Me, I went to work this morning.  Got some email and minor things done and then went shopping.  Went to the Vitamin Shoppe and got lots of things.  Then stopped at Stop and Shop and got groceries. Stephen and I are meeting at the lab tomorrow at noon.  We have a patient service center that is being renovated and needs their new computers installed on Sunday after the contractor finishes.

Tuesday, January 20, 2004 11:45pm EST

Good thing I have my new coat that my mom gave me.  Wow, the worst winter in 25 years and I am right in the middle of it.  Just great.  Well, at least the car got it's oil changed today and the road grime washed off.

Reuters - Tue Jan 20, 5:50 PM ET
The United States east of the Rocky Mountains will see extreme cold in the next two to three weeks with at least one forecaster calling it the coldest in 25 years, meteorologists said on Tuesday. "In the next six to 10 days, it will be colder than normal north of a line from Washington, D.C., to Denver," said Joe Bastardi of AccuWeather. "In the next 15 to 20 days, everybody is extremely cold. In the worst-case scenario, in much of the energy- consuming areas of the country, from the Rockies to New England, you can look at the coldest 10- to 20-day periods since the winters of 1977 and 1978," Bastardi said.

Tuesday, January 20, 2004 6:20am EST

Had a nice time at the holiday event.  It still is cold outside.  My car looks like a mess with all of that white junk from the roads on it.  Thought about taking it to the car wash but it's still below freezing out AND it is only to sneak above freezing on Thursday and then get cold again.  sigh.  Not used to this much cold.  After I got home last night, just sat and watched Deep Space 9.  Purchased the entire final season on eBay a week ago and have been working my way through all of the disks.  Got to get ready for work.

Sunday, January 18, 2004 4:15pm EST

BERGEN NJ - 400 PM EST SUN JAN 18 2004 ... WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT THROUGH EARLY THIS EVENING... SNOW WILL CONTINUE INTO EARLY THIS EVENING. TOTAL SNOW AMOUNTS OF 5 TO 7 INCHES ARE EXPECTED BEFORE THE SNOW ENDS FROM WEST TO EAST THIS EVENING. A WINTER STORM WARNING IS ISSUED WHEN SEVERE WINTER WEATHER IS EXPECTED TO OCCUR. HEAVY SNOW AND/OR ICE ARE FORECAST TO ACCUMULATE IN THE AFFECTED AREAS CAUSING HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS. THOSE WITH TRAVEL PLANS IN THE WARNING AREA ARE ADVISED TO CHOOSE AN ALTERNATE ROUTE, OR SHOULD USE EXTREME CAUTION IF TRAVEL IS UNAVOIDABLE.  It really does not seem that bad out there but if you get off the primary roads it is a bit tricky.  Good thing it is a Sunday because most people are staying home.

Sunday, January 18, 2004 4:00pm EST

Well it is snowing here.  The snow storm is running behind schedule which really is messing things up.  I have am event in the city tonight at 7pm so I'm back home from Starbucks to get ready.  Going to shower and dress, then leave around 5:30pm to go get Jeffrey and head to our event.  The primary streets are all clear.  Secondary streets are snow covered and a bit slick.  Nothing much to worry about except for other drivers who do not know how to drive in snow let alone how to drive period.  Jeffrey says the city is even lighter than here.  We have about 3" now.  I slept in this morning which was really nice.

Saturday, January 17, 2004 8:30am EST

It looks rather cold out there.  Was at Starbucks working on my computer until about 8:30 last night and then came home and watch Stargate SG1.  Then played on the computer until the wee hours of the morning.  Now headed to work for a spell.

Friday, January 16, 2004 5:45am EST

The TV is saying that Grover Cleveland was in the White House when it was last this cold.  We officially tied the record (1 above) for this date set back in 1893.  Ok, it is really cold outside.  Just stayed in last night and watched TV.  Apartment was nice and toasty.  I turned down the heat while I slept so it's only about 60-65 in here now.  If the temperature had gotten down to 0 or -1, it would have been the coldest winter since World War II.  Right now it's 3 with a wind chill of -13.  Wind is suppose to pick up and they are calling for a wind chill of -20 to -30 throughout the entire area.  Frost bite will occur in 15-20 minutes of exposure.  Very good idea to just stay in.  But I am off to work.  Nice that I do not have far to go.

Thursday, January 15, 2004 5:45am EST

About 3 inches of snow outside.  The problem is that it's 10 degrees so the snow is just becoming ice.  Friday morning it's supposed to be 0 degrees.  They expect us to warm up to 12 today.  So this is going to be fun getting to work.  At least I do not live far aware.  Guess I will shower and then get going to work.

Wednesday, January 14, 2004 7:00am EST

Just waiting for my shoulders to dry.  Went to the gym this morning at 5:30am and had a nice, short workout.  Now just took a shower and have applied my normal medication to my shoulders.  Waiting for it to dry while I talk to Tiffany and just check email.  I was on late last night and the only thing new was the weather forecast and my Daily dose of Dilbert.  I have a dentist appointment later today.  Oh yippee.  Not really looking forward to it.  Then again, I never look forward to a trip to the dentist.  Lots going on at work but that is normal.  Snow expected tonight.  3-6" or more but it's cold so it's the really dry snow they say.  I have a holiday party in the city Sunday night at Tavern on the Green.  Preliminary forecast calls for more snow, so that will be interesting.  Hopefully it will be in between snow falls.

Tuesday, January 13, 2004 10:45pm EST

It's just cold outside and getting colder.  Just got back from Starbucks.  Did some reading and talked with some friends.  Chris is having her new baby tomorrow.  She is being induced tomorrow morning.  Just talked to my dad for a little bit.  He was calling to brag that it was 80 degrees where he is in Indio, CA.  East of Palm Springs.  Oh well, off to the gym in the morning.  Have to be up at 5am.

Saturday, January 10, 2004 5:30pm EST

It is just plain cold outside.  I got up this morning and it was 2 degrees.  They are saying that it is the coldest winter in 4 years.  Gee, and that is when I moved here.  Someone did warn me that we have been having mild winters.  Boy, I really know what they mean by cold.  Actually, for short durations like from the apartment to the car it's not bad.  But just glad you do not have to stay in it.  My nose hairs start to freeze just breathing.  Off to Starbucks to do some reading.

Wednesday, January 7, 2004 (Full Moon)

Went into the city to attend the Imperial Court meeting.  Had a nice time seeing friends there and drove Jeffrey home.  Before that, several of us from work went out to dinner and talked shop.  They were all staying for a special meeting with the new CEO.

Monday, January 5, 2004

Went up to the fire house and talked to some people.  Nothing yet but it's still early in the new year.  One guy was telling me that it took him 6 months to get his application back.  Suppose I am doing good, it's only been 3.

Sunday, January 4, 2004 12:15pm EST

Was working on a few pages and realized I had not posted any of my other papers from recent classes.  So, I posted two new papers from my Ethics class on my University of Phoenix page.  They are an assignment on my Past, Present and Future and an Ethics Awareness Inventory Analysis.  Both are from November 2003.  Ok, that muffin is really screaming now.  MUFFIN ATTACK !!!

Sunday, January 4, 2004 11:30am EST

It has been a nice weekend so far.  Went to the gym today and started to get back into a swing with the gym.  Got my new gym identification card and found out some more information.  They came back to the apartment and had breakfast while I made some Atkins: Quick Quisine Chocolate Chocolate Chip muffins.  They are cooling right now.  Took down the Christmas lights inside the house and then need to get the ones outside taken down, boxed up and taken downstairs to the storage unit.  Then a quick shower and maybe over to Starbucks to read and relax or maybe a movie and Starbucks later.  Hmmm, that sounds better.  Oh, my test results came back from my blood drawn 12-31 and I lowered my Cholesterol to 160.  Which for my size and shape is VERY good.  Normal is <200 mg/dl and I used be 170 or something.  My 2nd cousin was on Atkins for a while and her cholesterol shot up and her doctor asked her to stop Atkins.  Guess Atkins is not for everyone.  Oh, and in case anyone was curious.  Yes, my HIV test was non-reactive once again.  Tossed that in so that my mother can stop worrying about that.  Well, it might stop her from worrying for about a minute or two.  You know how mothers can be.    Oh, and my PSA is low too mom.  Anyway, got things to do.  I hear a muffin calling me.  Tiffany is sitting in the window right now watching a kitty outside.  It's nice weather here for now.  Wednesday it's supposed to turn cold again.  Not even getting out of the 20's then.  BRRRR.  Still nothing from the Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department.  Suspect it's just taking them time to get the information from Oregon.  Oh well.

Thursday, January 1, 2004 12:20am EST  HAPPY NEW YEAR

Well, here is wishing everyone a healthy and safe New Year.  Do not forgot to put 2004 on your checks when you are writing them now.  Watched the TV and saw the ball drop with Dick Clark.  A few fire crackers outside but nothing to special.  Tired so going to head to bed and get some sleep.  Not sure what I am going to do tomorrow.  Maybe sleep in and just enjoy the New Year.  Time will tell.  Tiffany wants to say Meow to everyone out there in cyberspace.  Oh, and I heard from Stephens girlfriend who took the stray abandoned kitten that Stephen and I caught.  She (the kitty) is doing just fine and has adjusted well to her new environment.  She is very healthy and loves her new place.  Another success story.  Oh, I also bought a few clearance bears tonight from Starbucks.  You know, those big cute bears that they have.  Going to donate them to the children's hospital here like I did those other bears I had previously bought.  Remember to always occasionally think about doing something small that will bring a big smile to someone who might need it more than you.  Happy New Year everyone.
