Update for March 2004

Tuesday, March 30, 2004 10:30pm EST

Busy busy time but fun from what you can see above.  We had 18 employees from Quest Diagnostics at the coronation ball this year and just about everyone of them has told me they had a great time and want to go next year.  It was a smashing success.  About 850 people at this years ball.  Let's see, what else is going on.  I am clean shaven for the first time in many years.  Have to be for Fire school since a beard would cause problems with getting a good seal around your air mask.  I really look strange in the mirror.  Will have to post a picture soon.  Just got back from a Democratic town meeting.  Ran into someone I know from the fire department there.  Had a nice time talking with him and with everyone there.  Have lots of reading to do before tomorrow night so I should get to it.  Oh, my Step Dad retires tomorrow.  GO BILL !!!

Well I am all checked into the hotel now.  Just relaxing before this evenings events.  People are starting to arrive for the fun this weekend.  The Marriott is over booked because they are renovating 2 floors.  Oops.  But we got here early and got our room.  About 800+ people will be here tomorrow night for the big coronation ball.  Wish us all luck.

Finished my second Fire class.  Very busy with everything going on this weekend and having started school.  Trying to stay on top of everything.  School is starting off good.  But it's time for bed.  Lots to do tomorrow.

Just got back from Starbucks.  Read some, played Heart (I won), then we played Risk and I came in second.  I see that Yahoo is talking about a new worm that does not even need an email to be delivered to your computer.  It's only against a certain firewall which I do not use.  But rather a nasty worm it sounds like.  It's raining.  Had a great time today at the GLBT Expo at the Jacob Javits Convention Center.  Talked with lots of people while I worked the booth.  Bought 2 of the new Fire Flag EMS T-shirts.  They fit great.  Fire Flag is the only national peer support and social group for Gay Firefighters and EMS Professionals.  And they are located right here in NYC.  Their web site is www.fireflag.net.  Tomorrow I do not need to be over to the Javits until noon.  Guess I'll hit the sack.  Slept for several hours once I got home.  That concrete was a killer on my feet.  Monday I start fire school.  Check out this link to the Bergen County Law & Public Safety Institute for the classes that I will be taking.  Once there, click on Fire Course Catalog 2004 (upper right hand side).  Then click on the 1. Fire Fundamentals link.  Then click on the Firefighter I link which is the class that I will be taking.  Firefighter I is the fundamentals.  It's required before anything else.  Here you will see the 36 different classes.  I already have my CPR.  That is normally taught on a Saturday but I do not need to take it.  The other 35 classes are taught one a night.  I will go to class Monday and Wednesday nights.  After I get going, I can "swing" into a few of the Tuesday, Thursday classes to augment my schedule if I need to.  Just depends upon how things are going.  You can see the actual schedule by clicking on the NIGHT SCHEDULE link.  I am in the 347 class that starts March 22nd and ends with the Practical Evaluation August 14th.  Ok, it's late.  Night.

Oh boy.  More snow.  I feel like singing Christmas carols or something.  Are we sure this is March?  Oh well.  3-5 inches again tonight.  Hope this is really it now.  In other news.  Aram has been begged by his bosses to work a 3 day Rhode Island cruise next weekend.  So he will not be able to attend the Night of a Thousand Gowns.  He is really depressed about it.  But we have made plans for next year already.  Just over at Starbucks talking with friends so this might be really fragmented.  We were just talking with Anna about her paper that she is writing.  She is doing a paper during the spring (ha) break on Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights.  Sounds rather interesting.  She has finished the paper and is going through it to fluff it up with quotes from the book.  Anna is a very nice Russian high school senior who is a regular here.  Anna's boyfriend, Danny, a Dominican, was just on the phone.  Now we are talking about food which is Aram's favorite subject.  Especially since he is a chef.  He won the Food Show's "sugar" award.  Another words a dessert thing.  He did a chocolate soufflé. Anyway, I should wrap this up and get this posted.

Just got back from Starbucks.  Wow, this week has gone by fast.  I had a medical appointment today.  The doctor wants to change my meds.  My blood pressure is still a bit high.  Nice having a different doctor who seems to take my hypertension a bit more serious than my previous doctor.  So I am taking some different drugs for 3 weeks to see how that helps.  Still a bit under the weather with this slight cold.  Lots going on but just need to keep my head bolted on.

A busy day.  I'm at Starbucks right now.  Talking with Aram my chief friend.  He is trying to get out of work so that he can attend the Night of a Thousand Gowns later this month.  Ed and Sal told me today that they are going to get fitted for tuxes.  It really sounds like it is going to be a fun night.  I found out where our tables are and we have really prime seats.  Only 2 weeks to go before I start fire school.

Sad news.  Mark called last night and his little kitty "Mouser" was struck by a car.  His stupid roommate put the cat outside even thought she did not want to go out.  Tiffany (my cat) and Mouser were buddies when they both lived here in New Jersey.  Mouser left with Mark and Larry back in May 2000 when they traveled back cross-country.  Other than that, a rather quiet day.  Got up and went to work.  Had to do some testing after a conversion Saturday night.  Then went to the gym after everything checked out.  Later, I had a party in the City.  The Arts Project of Cherry Grove had their annual spring gathering.  It was fun seeing people from the island.  Lots of people came over to talk with me.  Now I am back home and since I have been under the weather a bit, I'm going to turn in early.

I am still a bit under the weather but recovering.  I am over at Starbucks right now.  Working on a program that I am doing for work.  I have an early start to Sunday coming up.  They are doing an upgrade on the cache database tonight and I have to go in on Sunday to test.  Then in the afternoon, I have a dinner party in Manhattan.  It is the March in-town meeting of the Cherry Grove Arts Project.  Get to meet friends from Fire Island and chat.

Have been a bit under the weather.  I think I picked up a bug from a friend at Starbucks.  Just chilling.  Busy with first of the month stuff.  Meetings.  We have two full tables of people going to this years Night of a Thousand Gowns later this month.  It is our big fund raiser for the Imperial Court.  Heading to bed soon.  Went to the gym Tuesday and was going to go today but think I will stay home and sleep.  Then see about going to the gym on Friday.
