Update for January 2013

Friday, January 25, 2013 9:30pm EST

Well I am glad that it is snowing outside.  Caused it to warm up to a nice 24 degrees.  Really light fluffy snow with very little moisture.  Yesterday I was out at the Town of Brookhaven offices to attend a meeting on what did and did not work for Sandy.  The meeting was well attended by various Law Enforcement and Fire Services from Fire Island.  It was nice talking with the people and hearing from everyone else.  There was some general themes that sounded like were issues from all ends of the island and then there was some local issues.  Hopefully it was good dialogue to document some things for the next incident.  A full weekend of events it would seem.  Saturday night is the Queens Pride Winter Festival that I will be at.  Too cold to pull Henry out of the closet so I think I will just go in a tux.  Should be fun.  On Wednesday night we went into the city to see an off-Broadway little play that a friend was in.  Had a fun time at the theatre and watching him perform.  Then took Jeffrey home (96th) before dropping Ryan off at his place in the Heights (upper Manhattan around 170th).

Ok, it's cold out there.  My poor car read 12 degrees this morning.  It has not been this cold here for 2 years.  Now we get 3-6" of snow on Friday to boot.  Have been just busy with stuff and learning my new iPhone too.  Next week I start back to Fire School night classes. So that should be fun and interesting.  Also have my OSHA Sunday PowerPoint to get ready.  Tonight we are headed into the city to see an off-Broadway show that a friend of ours is in.  Should be fun.

Preliminary 7.7 earthquake located 64 miles west of Craig, Alaska this morning at 4am Eastern.  Details below. Has been an interesting day so far.  Problems with electrical at our Syosset Long Island location had me on the phone most of last night.  Now that the sun is up, was able to get some other people in to the sight and they are reviewing.  Did my normal breakfast thing with Warren today since I will be out on Fire Island Sunday for a Island wide Fire Chief's meeting to review Sandy. Upgraded to an iPhone5 phone for my personal phone.  Still working out the user interface (i.e. teaching myself how to use it).  Once I do and get all of my contacts into it correctly and get it backed up I will email everyone to start using my personal phone instead of my work phone.  Now I will be able to get my personal email all of the time.  Smokey did not get to sleep much with me last night because I was on the phone, so she is all curled up on my lap as I am updating this.  Have a good weekend everyone.

Playing with my new iPhone5 cellular phone.  I have now a work cellular and a personal cellular. Hope everyone had a good New Year celebration.

Tuesday, January 1, 2013 2am EST **HAPPY NEW YEAR**

Home safe and sound from being with a few friends up in Northwestern New Jersey.  About an hour's drive from home here.  It was a last minute event and I was happy to jump this afternoon and say yes.  Several people were sick out of the party so will be taking an extra hit of Airborne before bed.  Also took some before I went.  As a result not everyone as chipper as usual and also the reason for being such a last minute event.  But we all had fun.  Toasted at midnight and then I left around 1am.  Nice quiet drive back but did see a bunch of police out looking for speeders.  Be safe everyone.
